I guess this card info could be used at any kiosk as long as your card has a number you can enter OR can be scanned by the kiosk...
Isn't there something in revelations about this<G>????

World Today
'Smart Card' Could Revolutionize the Way People Travel
Aired March 15, 1999 - 8:50 p.m. ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

JOIE CHEN, CNN ANCHOR: Even when the weather isn't rough, time and patience are essential on the road. No matter how quickly an airline or hotel tries to move you through, it never seems fast enough.

Rick Lockridge on new technology that could speed things up.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

RICK LOCKRIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The trouble with travel? Too much waiting and not enough whooshing. Frequent travelers fear the bottlenecks, the lines to check your bags, get your boarding pass, check into your hotel.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't like to wait.

LOCKRIDGE: Who does? But smart credit cards with embedded microchips that can carry all your travel preferences and powerful kiosks connected to the Internet are helping travelers eschew the queues and breeze through airports and into their hotel rooms without ever once having to do that slow-footed shuffle.

BRIAN HAMEL, IBM: Really, every facet of the travel process will change in the future.

LOCKRIDGE: British Airways' experimental check-in kiosks allow ticketed passengers with no luggage to select their own seats.

JUDITH CLARKE, BRITISH AIRWAYS: And this is where the passenger's sitting. If he wants to change seats, he can do so by touching one of the gray seats here.

LOCKRIDGE: Singapore Airlines says its experimental kiosks can process passengers in as little as 30 seconds, versus three to five minutes for a counter agent.

Air Canada's kiosks let you take a virtual tour of the type of aircraft you'll be flying in, inside and out.

And Hilton Hotels is trying out a smart credit card kiosk that can issue you a key to your room and a map to help you get there.

JOHN LIKE, HILTON HOTELS: A typical check-in today at any hotel is a lot of questions and answers. Now with the smart card, all of that information resides on the chip.

LOCKRIDGE: The chip on a smart card can also store an image of your palm or a fingerprint. So, someday, you may pass through customs with just a swipe of your card and a matching scan of your hand. In all these ways, the world's largest industry, travel, intends to get smart.

HAMEL: Clearly, over the next two, three, four years, you are going to see those type of technologies significantly implemented within the industry.

LOCKRIDGE: ATMs have taught us that machines don't always eliminate lines, but smart-card proponents say 70 percent of travelers would prefer to use machines if given the choice.
