Stockbull,

there are 2 possibilities:

#1 - IBM pulls out of the PC business in favor of DELL. With IBM concentrating solely on developing and selling the components.

or

#2 - The IBM brands (Aptivas... etc) will still be available. Only difference is that DELL assembles and distributes them. This is called "Jobbing".
For example: Your supermarket carries a no-name brand of Corn Flakes. Chances are that box of flakes is still made by Kelloggs.

Whether DELL sells DELL computers or assembles Aptivas is irrelevant. What matters is that the marginal contribution made by the JOBBING work must be the same or better than current status.

WRONG. DELL will continue selling its own PCs. But in addition, it will get a similar cut by selling IBM's PCs.
