H, The reason a broker never likes a customer's ideas is that he has to be able to say "unsolicited" on the ticket so he won't be sued.

I know several full service brokers who do their own research. But their firms let them stay only because they do big business. They really don't like that. They'd rather have the brokers simply flog the ideas from their research dept. As EF Hutton used to tell the brokers, "you gather the money and we in New York will decide how it should be invested." Of course, they decided it should be invested in a bunch of limited partnerships and the lawsuits went on forever and, of course, the poor sap of a broker lost all his clients and friends. <g>
