Folks are selling pIII-450 systems for $999-1299 now so the system prices are in the dirt. The celeron at 433 seems like a great machine frankly and you can pick them up for $700 range. And couple it with a good graphics card and you have a helluva machine for sub 1K for playing games. The k-3 make great overall PC's but for gaming I suspect the Celerons are better value. Heck, even on Sharky Extreme's weekly CPU price listing (http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/weekly_cpu), a Pentium II Xeon running at 400 MHz and having 512K of L2 cache runs for $694. A Pentium III 500 MHz runs for $680. The lowest Xeon is more expensive than the highest Pentium III. And it's still pretty tough to find a fully decked-out Pentium III 500 MHz system for under $2000. Conclusion? Your comparison is invalid. No one buys Xeon or Pentium III systems if they care about price/performance ratios. They buy them if they care about pure performance. Tenchusatsu
