Craig, thanks for the information, but isn't it possible that Innuit/Eskimo or whatever the northern Canadian natives are called only arrived there 10,000 years ago when the last ice age dwindled enough and they haven't lost the melanin genes that much? Don't forget, faces still need protection from sun and I suppose there is plenty reflected from snow even up north, so anyone who was too white got melanoma, or other skin cancers and didn't continue the reproduction cycle.

Living in the melanoma capital of the world, I can tell you that without medical intervention, the rate of evolution would be quite high for white people exposed to lots of sun. We'd all be brown in 10 generations [living as people used to = outdoors and breeding like mad].

Neanderthals and their replacement were messing around with DNA planning a couple of hundred thousand years ago on the fringes of the European ice sheets, so they have had a LOT longer to become acclimatized.

Also, I thought Vitamin D is produced in oils ON the skin, not IN the skin and absorbed through the skin. So do light people really produce Vitamin D more than dark ones?

Not wishing to lose sight of The Greenhouse Effect and hoping George and the 13,000 scientists can point out any mistakes I made on why both he and Al Gore are wrong about people recycling fossil hydrocarbons.
