Florida Firms' Legal Dispute Becomes a Nasty Brawl Online By ANDREW FRASER THE WALL STREET JOURNAL INTERACTIVE EDITION When investors with opposing views about their favorite stocks clash in online message boards, it's common for arguments to turn ugly. But company executives themselves usually refrain from joining in on the mudslinging. But a patent dispute between two struggling Florida biotechnology companies has spawned a nasty battle on the Internet, with executives lobbing charges in online message boards of theft of intellectual property and deception. Technical Chemical and Products Inc. and Americare Health Scan Inc., fledging manufacturers of medical diagnostic products, both deny that their chief executives are involved in a long-running Internet free-for-all on the Yahoo! and America Online stock discussion boards. Both companies have subpoenaed Internet portal Yahoo to determine the identities of the posters. And last year TCPI of Pompano, Fla., sued Americare chief executive Joseph D'Angelo for libel and slander based on some anonymous postings made in late 1997 on AOL.
