Amazon offers top-up to UK govt school book spend
LONDON, March 17 (Reuters) - Internet bookseller Amazon.com
<AMZN.O> said on Wednesday it would top up British government
spending on books if schools ordered their extra supplies from
its website online.
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown announced in his
budget last week that all schools would be given an extra 2,000
pounds for new books.
Amazon.co.uk, part of the world's leading online music and
books retailer, said it would add 200 pounds to the government's
contribution if schools used its website to order books.
"It's fitting that in this, The National Year of Reading, we
should be looking to support and boost the provision of books
and resources to the education sector," said Simon Murdoch,
managing director of Amazon.co.uk (www.amazon.co.uk).
Murdoch said schools should e-mail Amazon at
schools@amazon.co.uk for details.
