MacOS will run its course till what version, 8.6, 8.7...? Even microsoft knows it's not practical to build two OSs which is why windows 98 is the end of the line.

Microsoft thought Win95 would be end of the line. Then they thought Win98 would be end of the line. Microsoft recently indicated that they may have "one more" release based on the DOS/Win95 core...

Mac OS X was set to only run on G3 and above mid last year. Old News.

Mac OS is revved much more often than Windows. I would expect several more OS releases. After that, the fact is if you still are running a 5 year old machine, then you don't need the latest OS.

8.6 brings a low-level kernel update to the Mac OS. 8.7 will likely be the version that brings Carbon to the Mac OS. There will likely be an 8.6.1 and an 8.7.1 too.

This should take any Mac OS user well through 2000, so try not to worry too much. Nothing beyond then has been committed to anyway.
