MUSTANG SOFTWARE (MSTG) 3 3/16 + 31/32 Tiny little Mustang gets a boost in
reputation, opportunity, and stock price, as it announced today that it has signed on
3COM (COMS) as a client for its Internet Messaging Service product. The product
tracks incoming email messages, helps improve email response time and has
reporting capabilities for management tracking of email response levels. Why the
stock has taken off today on today's news, and not previously, is somewhat of a
mystery, as 3COM is only one of 150 customers for IMC, and there are already some
large blue chip IMC customers, including Lucent Technologies (LU), and GTE (GTE).
Also, although the size of the 3COM deal wasn't revealed, it can't be that big. The top
list price for IMC is only $10,000 for the Enterprise edition. Nevertheless, Mustang
recently has signed some big names for the IMC product, and it will probably give
their revenue growth curve a boost, which it sorely needs; Mustang did $4.8 milion in
sales in 95 and $3.8 million in 96. It could be they have found the product that will
bring them back into a growth company. But since there aren't any analysts following
the company, nobody will even be making guesses about Q1 revenues. We will have
to wait another couple of months to see if IMC is how MSTG will be able to ride the
internet.
