When you look at the Orb marketing message the first thing that they talk about is video applications. I believe that they are truly trying to position themselves as the next VCR, and of course, the next VCR needs to be digital.

The specs and format of the Orb product also show that it is tuned towards video applications. In this case they are really talking about consumer video, not studio work.

Since the video market isn't there yet they are logically pushing the computer applications for the drive. Your points regarding acceptance in this market are also on mark. It is quite possible that they aren't quite matched up with the right specs and price point for the computer market. The Zip 250 is at the same price point but it clearly can drop in price and it has 22 million little brothers running around. Orb has no family.

I do think that Orb is too small for the video market. The OnStream product will probably win that space. onstream.com
