Richard, the banks know they would not get paid by poor countries..so Gvn as usual decided to find the way for the banks to get paid..How this would increase investors confidence in poorly managed economies and help them is beyond me ...if anything it should spur capital flight not investment..

<< sold gradually over time so as not to rock the markets.>>

Richard,

Do you really believe the IMF gold sales will get through a Republican controlled congress? ... To forgive debts of non-voters? ... And a Clinton/Gore idea to boot?

Somehow I doubt that ... These are guys that don't even want to give decent support to voting US farmers!

BWDIK, being north of the border.

Clinton clobbers gold! Clinton stated that he was in favor of IMF gold sales to help
finance the debt of third world countries, and this saw gold down almost $5 earlier in
the session. Actually, gold dropped before he even spoke and came off the bottom
after the comments were made. Can you say "sell the rumor and buy the fact?"

Hi Richard, Instead of IMF gold sales why not just crank up the US printing presses like they have always done.
It seems like a pretty stupid move to sell gold at these low prices and
an even more stupid move to announce it to the public and knock
the price even lower before any sale.
The more they talk the less these poor countries will get. I hope these poor people don't hold their hand over their butts waiting for some gold ( money ) from IMF or USA.
I'm sure if clinton looked around the USA he could find enough needy poor people that could use help.

I thought Rubin was against it.. also there are probably a lot of traders on the other side of the trade beginning to salivate now..let all the weapons get launched..that won't leave anything for encore.. then up up and away ..nothing left to threaten except the other side of trade
