Searle: The financial establishment has long been trying to demonetize gold -- reducing it to the status of a commodity. Looks like they have succeeded -- at least for now. With the aid of low inflation and booming financial markets.

I don't think they are trying to depress the price further here. But they definitely are doing all they can to prevent any kind of sustained bull from developing. And these days what cannot go up usually comes down.

XAU actually rose a bit today as bullion plunged. Looks like a rally will develop tomorrow. But its strength and staying power is anybody's guess.

Searle It never fails to amaze me how naive people are. There you are suggesting $3 on a barrel would be significant to price of gasoline. Let's see at 80 gallons a barrel, $ 3 a barrel equals 3.75c per gallon, a drop in the bucket.
