The American Stock Exchange Brokerage Index set another new high. Brokerages JEF.. Tue Mar16 JEF NYSE RESUMPTION - Jefferies Group - Reuters Securities Alert: NYSE OPENING DELAY - Jefferies Group JEF up from 41 to 49 in just 2 trading sessions, still has about 10 points before it too reaches a 52 week high.

Merrill Lynch (MER) and E-Trade (EGRP) finished higher, and Donaldson,
Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) and Schwab (SCH), hit 52-week highs. Of course they leave out JEF

Go2Net (GNET) jumped up 12 5/8 to 126 after Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen agreed to acquire a controlling interest in the network of branded, technology- and community-driven Web sites.

Allen's Vulcan Ventures bought $165 million of convertible preferred stock. In addition Vulcan agreed to purchase 1.4 million shares of common stock from Go2Net's executive officers and Directors. Vulcan also offer to purchase up to 3.6 million shares of Go2Net's outstanding common stock at $90 per share in cash. Under the deal, Allen will own more than 54 percent of Go2Net's outstanding shares.

The move sets the stage for Allen to take on AtHome (ATHM) and America Online (AOL) by offering broadband content delivered through his growing cable TV network. Shares of AOL gained 2 15/16 to 104 15/16. AtHome rose 3 15/16 to 119 1/2.

COOL.....
Shares of online computer retailer Cyberian Outpost (COOL) jumped 2 7/8 to 21 3/8 after it unveiled a new online auction site. Designed to attract additional customers looking to bid on cut-rate priced computer equipment, the site supplements Outpost's existing online retail computer store.

"We believe this new offering will appeal to a new universe of shoppers enticed by the auction experience," Darryl Peck, Cyberian
Outpost's President and Chief Executive, said in a statement.

Internet connectivity company AboveNet Communications (ABOV) jumped 7 13/16 to 56 1/2, a gain of 16 percent. The stock's move follows comments Monday by the company's president, Warren Kaplan, who teased the possibility that the company will beat estimates, saying "we like to beat expectations and we have a history of doing so."

VRTY....Verity Software (VRTY) said it earned 24 cents a share in the fourth quarter. Analysts polled by First Call were looking for a profit of 20 cents. Shares gained 15/16 to 42 7/8 ahead of the report. See full story.
