Glenn.

If you are unable to get any MINE shares at the initial offering, you may want to look at Suite101.com (BOWG) as a sympathy play. Their site does essentially the same thing as MINE, though not nearly as well. They suffer from lack of capital, though it is my understanding, from their SEC filings, that they are looking to raise as much as $3.0 MM during the first quarter. BOWG was the creation of a reverse merger last year and they are fully reporting.

Clearly, you have not visited this part of BOWG:
suite101.com
and
suite101.com

Main comparisons are:

#1 the community feel where there are many people actively engaged in discussions about investing, much like here on SI, but for free. With moderated discussions, there is far less disruption from pranksters than is seen on Yahoo boards.

#2 Speed and ease of use. Build it and they will come. With the limited dollars until outside funding, BOWG management seems to be concentrating on infrastructure so when people visit, the server is fast and the site easy to use (still working hard on that part!<grin>).

Compare how easy it is to post or ask a question at one site vs the next. I am curious what you think.

#3 Other than stock options for long time editors, the editors at BOWG don't earn income yet other than a token reimbursement for internet access. MINE editors compete for revenue dollars. This seems to lead to editors helping each other more at BOWG than at MINE. (this is what was reported, but I have no idea if valid).

#4 Links. I like how MINE does their links compared to BOWG as they are easier to find. Still, BOWG's are good once you figure out that you have to click the "links" to get to them. suite101.com

I am really interested in other comments comparing the two sites.

In case you haven't figured it out, I have been the "Investing - Personal Finance" Editor at BOWG for 2 yrs now and our traffic is really impressive...too bad we don't have advertising as I'd be making really good money...8(

Here is a link with all information I can dig up on both BOWG and MINE. suite101.com

I hope both companies are successful. To get an idea of what is instore for MINE & BOWG, try reading "Net Worth" found here: pw2.netcom.com

Net Worth : Creating and Maximizing Wealth With the Internet:
The infomediary brokers client information to vendors in exchange for goods and services for the consumer.
