I met the man several times when I was growing up in Atlanta.

You lucky dog... did you ever see him play ?

I have a book about him, every time a read it/look at the pictures, it amazes me all of his accomplishments, particularly when you consider that he developed the spinal cord disease.

In a way, he reminds me of Tazio Nuvolari and Juan Manuel Fangio. (of Grand Prix fame).

." In "Lay Lady, Lay" Bob Zimmerman must have been talking about a chicken.

I doubt that very much... but that song, (which I like a lot), brings lots of good memories of time spent in...

Here it is for the b z fanatics...

Lay Lady Lay

Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed.
Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed.

Whatever colors you have
in your mind
I'll show them to ya,
and you'll see the shine.

Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed.
Forget this dance
Let's go upstairs.
Let's take a chance
Who really cares?

Why don't you know
You've got nothing to prove.
It's all in your eyes
and the way that you move.

Forget this dance
Let's go upstairs.

Why wait any longer
For the (?) need to complain.
You can have love,
But you might loose it.
Why run any longer
When you're running in place?
You can have the truth
but you've got to choose it.
mmmmmm

Stay lady stay
stay with your man a while.
'til the break of day
Let me see you make him smile.

I long to see you
In the morning light.
I long to hold you
In the night.

Stay lady stay
stay with your man a while.

Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed.

"In "Lay Lady, Lay" Bob Zimmerman must have been talking about a chicken."

oh, i'm certain as well that that is what he was singing about.

he wanted a chicken to lay across his bed.

and whatever color eggs the chicken had in her mind, bob would show them to her, and she'd see her eggs shine.

bob wanted the chicken to stay with him until the break of day, and to make him smile. the chicken was the best thing that bob had ever seen.

he wanted the chicken to know that she could have her feed and eat it too.

and he wanted to see that chicken in the morning light. he wanted to reach for that chicken in the night.

he even wanted the chicken to lay a cross on his big brass bed.

bawk!
