I like people like you that always give the example...from 1982...Him I was just out of high school then and remember there was a world before 1982. What happenned then? Anything can happen in the world so this attitude that longterm nothing can go wrong is foolish. Tell that to the people in the thirties or in the forties. It is like anything else, you make it while you can cause it might not be there tomorrow.
Also, this Y2k problem shouldn't be discounted. Sure it might not result in the end of the world but watch. I bet that toward the end of the year the market goes into a funk on atticipation of potential Y2K problems. Then after we party our brains out, we buy on the 2nd of January.
As far as 10k I couldn't care less. I am going from stock to stock with tight stops. When the day tne market goes into it's funk like it did in October then I get into the buy and hold strategy. Thus, I buy and hold when the market corrects and trade when everything is rosy in the world.
Good Luck
