I think that a number of posters discussing the LU issue have failed to notice the point that LU can MUX upward too. They are not going to hold long at 40GB either. There is nothing tried and true on their track either! IMHO, SR has not clearly illustrated a technology with an upgrade path at all. Frank said it well -- there's no MUX beyond what is done with a single wire, hauling millimeter wave analog frequencies to the modulator.
