3Com Corporation Appoints Senior Vice President for Supply Chain Operations;
New Position Created To Focus on Customer Fulfillment Activities

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17,
1999--Global networking leader 3Com Corporation
(Nasdaq:COMS) today announced that John F. McClelland, a
30-year veteran of high-technology business in all facets of
manufacturing and distribution, joined 3Com on March 15 as senior
vice president, supply chain operations, reporting to Bruce Claflin,
3Com's president and COO.

This new position will focus the resources of the company on
customer fulfillment activities, including procurement,
manufacturing, delivery and logistics, from the time the order is
placed, to the time the product is delivered to the customer.

At 3Com McClelland will have full responsibility for the new
Supply Chain Operations organization, which combines
manufacturing operations and logistics for enterprise, carrier and
client access systems and products. This high-level commitment to
implement supply chain management across the entire company will
help make 3Com a stronger leader in operational excellence and
customer satisfaction.

In addition, McClelland and his team will work closely with
3Com's e-Business management team, headed by Tom Thomas,
senior vice president and chief information officer, and Eric
Sternberg, vice president of e-Business operations. The 3Com
e-Business team is responsible for implementing a global, real-time,
web-based infrastructure, which will provide 3Com's channel
partners, end user customers, suppliers and employees with instant,
direct access to the on-line, real-time information they need to
conduct business with 3Com anywhere in the world.

McClelland has a wealth of senior-level experience in similar
capacities at IBM, Digital Equipment Corporation, and most
recently, Philips International. At Philips International, McClelland
was Global Chief Industrial Officer for the Philips Consumer
Electronics division. Prior to this position, he spent three and a half
years at DEC, most recently as Vice President/Worldwide
Operations. From 1968-1995, McClelland was with IBM; his last
role with IBM was as Vice President Worldwide Manufacturing for
the Personal Computer Unit.

You are exactly right. Mr. Benhamou should step aside. The COO, Bruce Claflin is very respected, focused and brutally confident (arrogant)and he has a great track record. The stock will need time to repair the damage. Good insight!
