Pigboy - Re: " why a company that may need NEW PCs would hold off getting them, considering the NEW PCs wouldn't be the problem (I'm assuming legacy software/hardware would be?), just an addition? "

Older software packages - principally running COBOL code on older computers - would need updating to new new or corrected software.

Since newer software was NOT WRITTEN to run on OLD computers, the "solution" is to get BOTH new software and the NEW HARDWARE on which to run the new software.

Further, some older PCs by themselves may have old real time clock/BIOS systems that fail to function properly around the turn of the new Millenium.

As an example, perhaps you can call IBM and ask for a BIOS UPDATE to your original IBM PC model 5151.

In fact, I'd be shocked if anyone at IBM even new what a Model 5151 PC was !
