** Semi-Equipment Investors ** March 10:

"09:32 ET PC Demand: Salomon Smith Barney says PC demand weakening..

Micron Technology Inc. (MU) 55 -1/8: CE Unterberg Towbin downgrades memory
chip maker from "strong buy" to "buy" on renewed price weakness for 64Mb DRAM
chips; spot pricing below $9.00 on parts for the first time in roughly six months, down
10% from last month; softening corporate PC sales is partly to blame as is better than
expected supply from company; lowers FY99 EPS estimate from $0.49 to $0.26 and
FY00 EPS from $4.40 to $3.25 a share....."

Remember, one of the three legs to AMAT's forecast is DRAM pricing above $9.00 for 64 Meg. DRAM pricing can change quickly. LG Semicon and Hyundai were forecasted to pump more out last month over the subsequent 4-6 weeks. This may be entering the market.

Re: "Now there is some divergence in performance!! In fact, if one looks closely and does some box counting, it looks as if the performance disparity has increased between the large caps and small caps since the lows last fall."

Yes, here's the headline of a story from the New York Times indicating the same thing.

From Page 41, Col. 1, "AYRES SEES MARKET AS 'CREEPING BEAR'
Fall of Prices Began Months Ago, He Says, but Was Hidden by Rising Averages"

sac.uky.edu

Oh yes, did I neglect to indicate that the article is dated Wednesday, October 16, 1929?

Best wishes,

Justa, re small caps. Elucidating but I guess the question is is it dead meat as far as the eye can see or is it a raging buy, who knows? Anyway I dumped my MNMCX yesterday put some in BSCFX hoping it will continue to outperform most small cap funds and I'm holding the rest. I'm looking to get more of a position in ASYT but this is trading about as liquid as a limited partnership and I'm not talking big bucks here. I can see if some serious money comes in or out there will probably be a big move.
