How exactly have I misrepresented your position?

I don't think Lawrence was misrepresenting anything. He selected instances in which you appeared - and this was an impression I got as well - to state that China's progress has been exclusively economic, and has not been reflected in political freedoms or human rights. The point Lawrence is making is that economic progress is political progress, and that ultimately the most effective way to bring China to progress in the political and human rights arenas is to encourage economic progress and engagement.

What changes would you prefer to see in the US position toward China?
