To All, Cramer said on CNBC that CPQ indicated at a recent Bear Stearns conference call, that at least for now, they will not pre-announce. Just thought I would pass that along. I am short CPQ, but I might consider covering.

On a separate note SEC noted that they intend to crack down on companies giving "selective information" to analysts and favored investors.

It is nice to see SEC announce that they intend to start doing their job. <g>

... Amazon.com reported ... roughly $29,000 of revenue per employee, which is about one-fourth the number for Saks and other old-line department stores ...

Call me crazy, but wouldn't the sales per employee for the aforementioned Barnes & Noble be more relevant? Perhaps that number didn't suit the conclusion he wanted to reach.

You're not crazy, but the numbers are still quite interesting. BKS had 27,200 employees as of FYE 98 (January) and currently has revenues of $3.044 Billion (FYE 1/99). (Data believed to be reliable but who really knows? Employee data from the 10-K and revenue data from their press release.

Unless my Excel spreadsheet is wrong, that comes to about $111,000 per employee, quite a bit more than AMZN.

I wonder why he didn't use that comparison?
