That car, if it is real, is super, super rare, and worth considerably more than 9 grand. My books don't even show it, but I know there was a 396 option on the car in '66. The '68, which is also a rare car with a 396, is worth roughly ten grand (or more, depending). I'd be ultra-leery about it being a matching numbers car, I'd have an expert check it out, and I mean somebody that knows the car cold, not some car salesman, but if it's real, it's a really good deal. It's hard to believe that a car lot could have a 4 speed 396 Nova and not know what they had, but if the car is documented, and the tranny and motor are original, it's a once-in-a-decade deal.

OFF TOPIC here are some leads. One of these dudes should be able to tell you how to spot a real car, if it exists. First thing to check, of course, is if the car really is a '66. Call the car lot and get the VIN of the car and ask the dude to tell you the mfg date from the driver's side door. (Lots of '67s were built in '66). Then pick one of these guys and call him. (And don't tell him exactly where you or the car are. <ggg>)

In '69 I was riding in a pal's VW down by Disneyland, which happened to be a favorite spot for streetracers. We were sitting at a light between a couple of Chevelles revving their engines: the light turned green and the race was on. But from right behind us there was a tremendous roar, and a Chevy II (or was it a Nova?) blasted by, caught and passed both of the Chevelles. The car literally seemed to jump off the street. We had been smoking something a few minutes before, and we just sat there and stared in stunned disbelief.
