Well, I think of flirting as a form of flattery. It may be sincere, it may not be, but only the flirter knows for sure.

There are two parts to flirting - it is a way of drawing attention to one's own self, as in "the bird flirted its tail," and the other is a way of playing at love. Men love it when women play at being in love with them, especially so when it isn't genuine, it's just a game. There is a new song, the chorus is, "You blew me off! It turned me on!"
