This one came as a bit of surprise to me. I had heard about the need for haematology but didn't realize they were working on a new device.
I spoke with the company today and apparently, the unit will be available in N America and 100 units have been ordered for arrival in April and June. Melet will also distribute the Vetscan and Piccolo in Europe in addition to the manufacturing and distribution ot the HMT.
The unit itself is automatic and can provide red blood cell counts, 3 part differentiated white blood cell counts, platelets and other tests that I am not certain of. A 12 microlitre blood sample will produce results within 4 to 5 minutes. The cost of the unit to the end user will be $11,995 with cost to distributor of between $8-9,000. The unit has been evaluated at Colorado State University.
With the recent Petsmart announcement, one could presume them to be likely buyers of the unit as it would be logical to package the Vetscan and the HMT together as a cost reducing incentive.
Insider buying, increased margins, new product, electrolytes, Petsmart deal----things are looking much better.
I think it is also significant that Melet is now a European distributor with a vested interest.
