Very odd. I don't know, but I'm fascinated. --Linda

Otter,

I've seen that pattern with other stocks at various times. I've always interpreted it as either/both

1. A sign of accumulation or selling off a position depending on whether its the bid or ask. As soon as the 10,800 gets filled, then another 10,800 appears, and another, all day long.

I've seen the same thing with PAIR and FORE before. Why an odd number who knows? Maybe there is a standing 10,000 plus 8 others with a standing 100?.

2. The odd number, (10,800 in this case) is a signal among the MM about something. On PAIR one day I saw a number like 9900 all day long buying and the price went no where. But the 9900 must have been bought 200 times over that particular day. Maybe 2 market makers pumping the volume and trading a net of 0 between themselves? Hows that for a conspiracy theory?

In the case of VLSI I would think #1.

Otter,

I don't have a lot of insight into the 10,800 share trades, but you are probably correct on the following:

<any number of apparently small trades that seem to blast through all at once - which I conclude are multiple sells against a single (larger) buy - or vice versa>

Sorry that I can't offer anything on the 10,800 share trades. I don't know what was up there and wasn't watching the trading close enough at that time. CHGO is the Chicago Board of Trade. That just means that the trade was done on a third market rather than through the Nasdaq.

The stock looks firm today, and if the market is right, we should get some good news after the close today.

Best of luck to all,

Dan
