I wonder if this is a product in search of a market?

I think you have hit it on the head. I don't there is a big demand for this product and not enough people willing to pay the price for something that does not really add too much value to their communication system.

I used to believe Portico was the direction GMGC was going, I don't believe that anymore! Think about Intuit their customer's will be able to access information so easily it will enhance their service! Even if no subscriber's come from the Intuit agreement revenues will be generated from minutes used at the NOC. Its as simple as asking for real time quotes or prices on a certain stock or please connect me with accounts payable. Not to say Portico won't have a place I simply believe that the number of different application's for Magic Talk are unimaginable. Being a subscriber for my small business key customer's are very impressed with the ability to contact me!! I can also call Portico and have her access my voice mail if a client leaves a number she will dial it for me I just say call them.
I can ask her to open my address book and look up a contact after finding the person I will ask her to call them I love this feature!!
No carrying phone numbers and no dialing! On a mobile phone this is very important! I subscribe for $30.00 per month well worth the price!! I have eliminated by home business line and voice mail thru the cellular company! I'm breaking even and improving my service.
I believe this is what revolv is all about! Still very long!

Good luck! Rob

Hi MattB

"I think they have great technology, and the portico product seems real. I wonder, however, from a customer point of view, how many of us really need it?"

IMO, Portico is in its infancy. The voice technology that GMGC has will go far beyond the Portico product. You are obviously very able. Think about all the disabled people, example Christopher Reeve, who through using just his voice can do practically everything you can do - access the internet, switch on & off appliances and write correspondence all just by using his voice. How many people really need this? Millions! And the rest of us that are able and busy trying to perform a myriad of tasks all at once; voice recognition fits the ticket.

Simplyfying peoples lives is what General Magic's products are all about.

Technology such as this, takes time to develop. How many times have you heard people say - "who needs a VCR" , "I'll never need a Cellular phone", "Shopping over a computer? That will never happen?" So FWIW, I want to be ahead instead of always chasing. lol

All IMO

Straight Up

That's the american DREAM - to be able to say 'I bought 1,000 shares of MSFT back in '85, and i still have it today'.
Unfortunately, falling in love with a stock will kill you, especially if it's a, what i call, a 'Non-NYSE' stock. You can play with financials a lot more, and you don't have to report as much to the SEC, nor to the shareholders.
This isn't to say GMGC is doing this, i don't think they are. I am just saying there is a lot more leeway for ANY company to take advantage of its' shareholders.
