Tero: The WCDMA PSTN call

Yep, it is correct about Ericsson making a WCDMA call over PSTN about a year ago -This is not to say they were the first either! It came as a surprise to my Ericsson contacts that Nokia put that press release out. Most demo sites (by whoever) are connected to the PSTN. Basic testing includes sending calls out to the PSTN and back again. Even the recent UK Ericsson trial used international ISDN (but I know this has also been done before in Asia between 2 countries some time back).

Most "handset" demo models are 20kgs! Well, that was what I thought untill I recently saw a real hand sized WCDMA mobile from our Japanese cousins (yes, it was only for voice calls, but the Japanese are forging ahead in certain areas).

As for Asia. I also believe that Nokia bagged the first GPRS deal, but I have to temper down some news as I know for a fact that many operators do not want the info public no matter how much the vendor would like to trumpet the announcement. The reason for supressing news keeps your other suppliers happy and also provides a competitive edge when you finally launch a new service.
