Dave, darlin', I promise you that if you stay shy with me after I've given you my best 150-watt grin and zapped you with my baby browns, I'll lose interest. But if that's what you call "breaking the ice," I guess you can call me an ice-breaker, kinda like one of those ships they use in the Arctic. It is a very rare person, man or woman, who won't engage in conversation with me, and the ones who won't, I just forget about them. I am probably one of those over-confident people you don't like, come to think of it. Secretly, I feel shy in social situations, too, but my natural gregariousness makes me reach out.

I was always interested in getting past the person I was talking to to find out if she was as interesting as the next person, then If she was, I tried to go back to the first one. But it never seemed to work out. I think this thread has succeeded in collective a large sample of self-confessed shy people.
