I don't know why Yahoo has stayed away. Either they believe that it is away from their core competency, or they have decided that being a directory and commerce platform is their focus. Streaming video is a complex proposition. Broadcast's closest competitor is RealNetworks (which is currently dusting Broadcast on NASDAQ to my frustration), who is approaching the opportunity with distributed servers. The next competitor I know is the emerging entrant from CMGI.
