hi edamo:

I am in agreement. Free up that margin by closing position which are way out of the money and sell more puts to generate more premium. I have AOL Jul50 and Jan00/50 puts which I might close and sell options with higher strike price.

<<<<agree, matter of fact i just closed some profitable leap puts i sold over the past year (sunw 0055, dell 0021.25)as the premium got in the under $2 range...replaced with dell may50 @ 8.5.....strategy>>>
Thanks for your discussion. We seem to need constant reminders as provided by the thread discussion.I also have some overripe calls that are no longer providing useful leverage and perhaps should be replaced..
An LMFAH Msft call ,cost $7 in June of 1998 now is $43. I have kept it mostly because in 3 months it will be taxed at LT rather than ST rate. So there is a balance to work out between paying the higher tax and the potential for greater gain by buying many more higher strike
calls. Its nice to look at, but it would probably be best to sell it.
I have already rolled out the Dell leaps bought in 1997, some of them twice now, as they turn into monsters. So the original neat idea of buying them for long-term gains got overridden.
One replacement Leap, bought in Oct of 1998 is a ZDEAF at $9 is now $21 and it is only 5 months old.
If the bears did some homework and followed the progress of a Dell leap for a just a year (instead of saying the sky is falling),
they would not touch this stock with a ten-foot pole.
