you have a short memory. he said in addition that he would not rule out the potential. the fact is that a split was inevitable but not after the price dropped back from 220+ to 190's the day earnings were announced.

in addition, the subsequent drop no doubt undermined his poker play with barry diller. he has to beef up the price and this is a strategically brilliant way to do that, particularly given the disappointment when he failed to announce it with earnings. I also wonder if his timing before triple witching friday is not also a brilliant maneuver.

I don't think CMGI needs a split before they buy LCOS. It would be stupid to pop up CMGI stock first and then make an offer for LCOS. If they do that, I bet CMGI will drop faster than it rises! I wouldn't assume that DW is that stupid.
