Planning seems to be the operative word: Conexant Systems Says It Is Planning Multiple-Function Cable-Modem Chip I don't have an axe to grind here, and am long on BRCM, but the CNXT article goes on to say: "Pricing and Availability Sampling of the CN8600AVD chip and evaluation system will begin in the first calendar quarter of 1999. In the second calendar quarter, samples will be available for the CN8610AVD. The chips are priced at $29 for the CN8600AVD and $31 for the CN8610AVD in OEM volumes of 100,000 units. Volume production is scheduled for Q3 '99. " This market seems to be one where several providers are about to enter a "tornado" (if you are a G. Moore reading fan). BRCM and CNXT look like two of the contenders and they will both likely explode as the market expands very quickly. Perhaps only one will come out the other end as the Gorilla, or perhaps they will both come out as Kings, but I think I may wish to put some money on both. Love to hear your opinion, as I am very new to this nich, with investments in PMCS, BRCM, ATHM,and UNPH.
