Tony - RE: "I don't think that Intel has announced that Merced has slipped WRT the new schedule announced a year ago. Someone correct me if I'm wrong."

Here is a non-The Register link. ;)

news.com

The article is dated June 1, but is an update from a May 28 article. So, as far as we know, Intel's next IMMENSELY BIG and IMPORTANT DELAYED processor hasn't slipped since then. Intel says samples will be ready this June with the actual processor coming out about one year from that.

RE: "If you are going to believe the Register, you might just as well short the hell out of Intel and mortgage the house to buy all the AMD you can at the same time. Go for it. What the hell, AMD has more holes in their bin split yields than a cartwheel of swiss cheese, but that's probably all fixed by now."

I don't know how you got AMD out of this mess, but The Register isn't Anti-Intel, Pro-AMD, they are Anti-Intel, Neutral-AMD, and Pro-Compaq (because they are Anti-Intel.) They are also Anti-Microsoft. (I have a feeling they don't like the 800lb gorillas ;) )
