General post

Hello All,

Regarding Osicom (NASDAQ: FIBR)

New News:

Heritage Capital just filed a 13G for Osicom. They now have 6%
of the shares outstanding.

freeedgar.com

Old News:

Here are a bunch of other links I consider important and some text:

Osicom has a unique piece of DWDM equipment (Dense Wavelength
Division Multiplexing). Osicom has designed this equipment for the
short haul market (< 100 km). The pricing blows Ciena out of the
market. Osicom has won bids against Lucent and all comers in this
arena. DWDM equipment takes the capacity of optical fiber from 2.5
Gbs to many multiples of this, depending how many lasers, at
different wavelengths, you want to add. This equipment can be
retro-fitted onto old fiber. Europe is ripe for this kind of rescue
mission. Domestically, companies like ATHM, drive
redesign of networks which will require something like Osicom's
product. There are significant barriers to entry in this market.
The value of this should be compared to Nortel's recent purchase of
Cambrian, a private company, for $300 million.

See the recent news:
biz.yahoo.com
Please note the partnership with Fore.

Osicom has another product which is just as blockbuster, in a
completely independant way, The NET+ARM. This is explained:
osicom.com
The value of this should be compared with Echelon (NASDAQ: ELON);
$200 million.

One unique thing Osicom does is provide RealAudio replays of its
conference calls. The last two are available on its website. They
are probably the most convincing evidence available.
osicom.com

Osicom's business plan, contained in one of the annual reports:
freeedgar.com
The above business plan was filed two years ago. They have followed
it to the letter, IMHO. Key Idea: "In Phase III, the Company plans to
leverage those competencies and relationships with the goal of
capturing a significant share of the networking market."

Osicom's news releases:
osicom.com
Note that both NET+ARM and the Gigamux (the DWDM) are recent industry
award winners. Please note the new partnership with Fore.

If you listen to the conference calls, you find that Osicom has Media
One as one of their customers. Here is the significance of that:
ragingbull.com
This is a hint of why Osicom is a Rule Breaker.

Finally, Osicom is giving seminars on how to redesign the Internet
(RULE BREAKER!!!) Here is the information:
osicom.com
Attached at the bottom, please find a report of someone attending
one of these seminars. The author is heels67. I have met him
personally and know his real name. I consider him a reliable,
source, but of course you have to filter out the selling he
is doing.

DWDM Seminar: A Report from the Ritz

Folks, if you ever get a chance to go to an Osicom DWDM seminar, then jump on it!
Today, NovaTom, Slick, and I were treated to a most impressive presentation at the
Old Dominion Room in the Tyson's Corner Ritz Carlton Hotel.

The seminar was divided into four segments. The first three provided generic
information on short-haul (and long-haul) DWDM. The presenters went out of their way
to provide just the information in general, saving for the last segment the sales pitch
about the Gigamux and EPC.

The presentation was first rate. The slide show was well done, the laser pointer
worked, and the lapel mikes only broke up once or twice. (After the
we-can't-make-the-slide-projector-work fiasco of several CC's ago, I was holding my
breath!)

Ron Mackey, VP of R&D, made the first presentation. Actually, when we arrived, the
three of us introduced ourselves to Ron and got the full description of the newest
Mackey arrival. Apparently, Ron was careening through the night streets being chased
by a pack of police cars. Ron beat them to the hospital, and, when informed of the
impending birth, the cop make a quick escape. In any event, Mom and new-born son,
though a bit premature, are at home and doing just fine. The Littlest Villager! (Cigars
will be mailed to all shareholders in the next Proxy Packet!) (Right, Grandma? I know
you're out there!!!!!)

During the day-long event, I FINALLY learned what the Gigamux is really all about. The
way they have designed this product (a series of products, actually) ensures its
success. It is the only functioning, installed, available short-haul machine on the market.

Words that were music to our ears during the presentation: "We have several
installations that have . . . ." "When customers ask me if we can ...." "Deployed."
"Shipped." "An RBOC I talked to, which I cannot name...."

How about this one: "In our discussions with American OnLine...."

Ivo was also in attendance, along with Mark, Bill, (Maybe NovaTom and Slick can fill in
the names here). I asked Phil if BellAtlantic was in attendance. He said they had
signed up but could not attend. I said, "Well, they obviously know about us judging from
the FORE demonstration...." "Oh, they know about us..." he replied with a grin.

35 people had registered. Representatives from Cisco, FORE, and NEC were in
attendance. The Cisco pair kept taking notes and passing notes back and forth.
Unfortunately, when Slick was dispatched to accidentally spill a pitcher of water on their
table and snatch the notes, he...well...he failed. <g>

During one of the presentations, the presenter explained a typical fiber exhaust
situation. He said that a "customer" had an existing fiber network and was approached
by another carrier who wanted to run some other data over the network. But the
network was exhausted. Voila! Installing the necessary Gigamuxes enabled the
customer to keep using the network as they were and to accept the new traffic by the
other carrier. About SIX MONTHS WORTH OF RENT paid for the Gigamuxes. After
that . . . 100% pure profit (less the cost of the stamp to mail the invoice!). During the
break, I approached the presented and said, "That exhaust example you gave. Sounds
a lot like Texas Utilities." He looked at me and smiled: "It's like several installations, but
I can't say which one." Hmmmmm....

Folks, I'm begging you. If you get a chance to go to one of these seminars, then do it!
We made it plain to the Osicom people that we'd gladly relinquish our seats if they had
an overflow. But it must look good for the paying people to see a full house, and if
some of those bodies are Villagers all decked out in their Village finery, then what the
heck! At least we can look like nerds with fat checkbooks!

Will someone please grab me by the scruff of the neck and shake the hell out of me if I
even hint about looking for the Sell Button before we hit 99in99????

Case for cable&wireless:

So is this the CLEC? Cable and Wireless?

I was adding the info posted by Sorno to the Osicom release, and made a speculation. Read
Sorno's again:

"Earlier this year, Cable & Wireless announced that it was also deploying 18 FORE
Systems' ForeRunner ASX 4000 ATM switches throughout its Internet backbone. These
ATM switches today support OC-48 and are expected to support OC-192 speeds in the
future, which is the direction that Cable & Wireless hopes to take its network."
:
:
Then read Osicoms release(below), and put it together.. That sounds like 18 Gigamuxes at
$125,000 each or so.. ONE FORE SWITCH=ONE GIGAMUX hmm... that bodes well for the
future!!
:
:
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 1999--Osicom Technologies, Inc.
(Nasdaq NM:FIBR - news), a market leader in Metro DWDM (Dense Wave Division
Multiplexing), today announced that it has received a $2.4 million order for its GigaMux(TM)
Metro DWDM solution from a US-based Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC). This
order, which increases the Company's backlog for the GigaMux product line to a record $5.3
million, is expected to begin shipping in the fiscal first quarter ending April 30, 1999,
following customer approval. Further terms were not disclosed. The Company also
announced that following a successful demonstration, delivery of the previously announced
GigaMux order from Tangshan Cable Television Network (TCTN) in China is being
accelerated, with shipment expected to occur in this fiscal year's first quarter, instead of in
the second quarter as originally announced. According to Osicom CEO, Par Chadha,
shipments of GigaMux during the first quarter of this fiscal year are now anticipated to be at
least $4.1 million, a substantial increase over previous quarterly shipments of GigaMux.

Osicom President, Dr. Xin Cheng said ''We are very pleased that the growing level of
interest in GigaMux over the last year is beginning to result in significant orders and
shipments. We are encouraged to be entering our new fiscal year with eight GigaMux
customers, up from the two we had at this time last year. We believe this clearly
demonstrates the market's increasing acceptance of GigaMux as the product of choice to
meet the ever-expanding demands for greater bandwidth in fiber optic networks. Not only
are we adding new customers on a more frequent basis, but we are seeing consistent
reordering from our previously established customer base.''

Chadha commented, ''The fourth quarter of fiscal year 1999 marked an important turning
point for Osicom. A carefully orchestrated ramp-up of production capacity and resources has
been underway in the Company's San Diego facility for several months. In addition, we are
expanding our sales, marketing and support organization in Europe in further preparation for
what we believe is the beginning of an increase in deployments.''

GigaMux Product Family

Osicom's GigaMux line of DWDM transforms a single fiber from a dedicated,
single-application medium into a versatile conduit capable of simultaneously transporting up
to 32 independent optical channels. It increases the total bandwidth of a single fiber from 2.5
Gbps to 80 Gbps. GigaMux supports fault tolerant DWDM rings as well as point-to-point
network configurations. It is protocol transparent and data rate independent in the entire 51
Mbps through 2.5 Gbps range.

GigaMux's breakthrough EPC(TM) optical and electronic sub-rate multiplexing technology
provides 512 sub-channels with direct optical and electrical interfaces to customer premise
equipment and carries voice, video and data traffic. Osicom's Dense Wave Division
Networking (DWDN(TM)) solutions enable direct optical interconnection of high-speed data
and telecom equipment, such as multi-gigabit switches and routers, in campus and
metropolitan area networks (MAN). DWDN removes protocol conversion steps, eliminating
the network latency that is a key barrier to widespread deployment of IP telephony and
real-time voice and video.
