IATV- The march forward contines

Check the news. Sky Connect and ACTV inked a deal last December to imbed ACTV's individualized TV in their ad insertion product......

March 17, 1999:

nCUBE to Buy SkyConnect

Foster City, Calif. -- Video-server supplier
nCUBE said Wednesday that it agreed to buy
SkyConnect Inc., adding digital ad insertion to
nCUBE's service line.

Oracle Corp. chairman Larry Ellison, who is also
chairman, CEO and principal owner of nCUBE,
said the combined firm will pitch "mission-critical
solutions for a variety of broadcast-quality digital
applications," including video-on-demand,
enhanced pay-per-view and digital ad insertion.
Deal terms were not disclosed.

Louisville, Colo.-based SkyConnect and
nCUBE have been working on VOD-delivery
solutions since mid-1998, the companies said.

The latter's "MediaCube" video servers, using
Oracle software, rank among the leading servers
used in VOD and near-VOD trials and
applications by cable and telecommunications
companies.

Ameritech New Media, for example, uses
nCUBE servers to provide server-based
enhanced-PPV services in its Midwest cable
systems.

SkyConnect -- in second place in the
ad-insertion market -- is well behind
market-leader SeaChange International Inc.

SkyConnect was slated to merge with
Internet-service provider Online System
Services Inc. last year, but that deal fell apart in
November, after OSS' stock price fell sharply
due to investor dissatisfaction with the deal.
