Worshippers To 'Borrow' Cash From Goddess

<Picture: H>ONG KONG--Hundreds of worshippers devoted to Buddhism -- and money -- queued outside Hong Kong temples Friday to perform a "cash-borrowing" ritual.
More than 200 people waited at the Hung Hom temple to borrow money from Kuan Yin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, amid the territory's most severe economic recession in decades.
The goddess' "coffers" will disburse the funds Friday and Saturday.
The exercise is purely symbolic, and involves no real money. Worshippers believe the ritual will bring them good fortune.
"I hope to borrow HK$10 million ($1.3 million) this year, but I will already be happy if I can get HK$2 million to HK$3 million," said the man at the head of the queue, who identified himself only by his surname, Lai.
He told reporters he had recently lost his job as a cook.
Lai and other believers started to queue up outside the temple, Hong Kong's most popular, from Thursday afternoon, well before the treasury's opening late Friday.
The temple's manager said he expected more than 30,000 worshippers this year.
The ritual may be performed in different ways. One involves the worshipper picking up a packet of "lucky money" from a gold and silver chest that rests before the goddess.
The packet contains a piece of red paper on which is written a figure up to 100 million, representing the amount of Hong Kong dollars the worshipper is "borrowing" from the goddess.

TW, just love that sonnet of yours -g-

I think Granville may hit this one right, especially with Cramer giving him a hard time. Cramer was buying aol on a 1/2 point scale down at 118 last Aug on to have it go to 80, he sold his dell on Oct 8th the day that it went to 40 and then was back up to the 50's in no time....no wonder his return was 2%
