Can anyone confirm this? Sony has said all along that they would concentrate on OEMs so this product could sneak up on the market. You won't see aisle headers with it featured at Frys or Comp USA.<<

Stitch -

HiFD was released to retail in December as an aftermarket product. The OEM internal drive was said to be due this quarter. In January, Sony announced that they were recalling all HiFD drives sold due to problems with the head assembly, and that they would re-release the product by March, if I remember right. At the time, they said that only about a hundred drives had made it into the hands of consumers.

Here's a link to the Sony HiFD site, where a press release purports to give information on shipping status. It says they've "temporarily suspended" shipments.

They are shipping quantity...about 5,000 last month but still have a lot to prove.<<

Five thousand drives is not quantity. That would be a total of 60,000 units a year.
