In January, Sony announced that they were recalling all HiFD drives sold due to problems with the head assembly, and that they would re-release the product by March, if I remember right. At the time, they said that only about a hundred drives had made it into the hands of consumers. Here's a link to the Sony HiFD site, where a press release purports to give information on shipping status.
