Here is a couple of ideas. As many know, medical REITS have been hit because investors are concerned about the government payment plan for Medicare. Hotels have been hit due to fears of overbuilding. Also, another factor has been the change in tax laws for paired reits. These are the main factors that have affected MT. If you check out the WSJ's data on insider buying by sector, you will see that REITS head the list.

Face it. Reits are boring when you see internet stocks doubling in a week.
