Compaq Simplifies Electronic Archiving With New Release of Compaq Archive For SAP R/3 Users
Business Wire - March 18, 1999 09:13
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1999-- Web-enabled Solution Offers Improved Performance, High Availability, and Simplified Administration for Lower Total Cost of Ownership

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today announced significant enhancements to Compaq Archive, its electronic document and data archiving system. Compaq Archive addresses the emerging market for electronically archiving the huge amounts of data generated by ERP systems such as SAP. The newest version, Compaq Archive Version 5.0, now provides SAP R/3 users with Web-based administration, monitoring and remote support of stored documents and data. Archive also allows for simple customization to achieve the lowest possible total cost of ownership, permits system configuration changes without interruption, and offers high availability complemented by built-in recovery.

Typically, the need to offload the production system and avoid performance deterioration arises one to two years after the introduction of an ERP system. Compaq Archive for R/3 provides SAP R/3 users with an optical archiving solution for the storage and retrieval of documents and data, enabling IT departments to consolidate and control global data from a central server, centralizing system management while providing fast, simultaneous access to data and documents. This turnkey solution, which is SAP-certified, includes industry-standard hardware and software, SAP R/3 customization, and Compaq's integration, implementation and support services for customers worldwide.

Since 1994, Compaq Archive has been successfully implemented throughout Europe and North America on both Compaq Tru64 UNIX and Windows Server platforms. Version 5.0 of Compaq Archive allows operation in mixed platform environments, provides scalability from stand-alone to complex, distributed systems, and offers faster access to archived data. Archiving features have been enhanced to include prioritized and parallel archiving, easy document migration, and improved security.

"Today's sophisticated enterprise applications generate an enormous amount of data and exacerbate the issues around storage, management, and control," said Peter Mark Droste, Vice President of Compaq's Worldwide Enterprise Application Practice. "Compaq is aggressively addressing this emerging market with its enhanced archiving system."

Availability and Support

Available worldwide today, Compaq Archive will be marketed through Compaq partners as well as by Compaq Services as part of its portfolio of enterprise application services and solutions. A channel partner pilot program has been established in Europe, with worldwide expansion planned for the second half of the year. Compaq Increases Storage Capacity with New Drive; Lowers Enterprise Disk Drive Prices
Business Wire - March 18, 1999 09:49
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1999--Today Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) announced a new 18.2 GB Hot-Pluggable Wide-Ultra SCSI low-profile (3.5" x 1" form factor) hard disk drive for use with Compaq ProLiant servers and storage systems. The introduction of this high capacity, low-profile drive increases internal storage capacity up to 100 percent. The reduced drive height also allows users to improve performance by maximizing the number of drives installed in their systems without sacrificing total storage capacity. Available now, the drive is offered at the same competitive price as the 18.2 GB half-height drives that it replaces.

As with all Compaq Enterprise Class SCSI hard drives, the new drive passed the rigorous Compaq Hard Disk Drive Qualification (HDDQ) process to ensure the highest levels of disk drive quality and reliability. Rather than relying on statistical projections, the HDDQ process tests demonstrate drive reliability and robustness of design. Compaq hard drives are also tested to ensure seamless integration with Compaq hardware and supported operating systems.

Compaq also reduced prices on most SCSI drives by up to 25 percent, offering solutions with the highest reliability and functionality at the lowest total cost of ownership. Compaq can offer products at more competitive prices by making significant improvements in the efficiencies for inventory and distribution.

Compaq, the number one supplier of disk storage systems(1), offers leadership industry-standard storage solutions for servers, multi-vendor environments, and business-critical computing. The Compaq StorageWorks brand name is widely recognized for supporting the most demanding business applications and is supported by a broad product family.

Based on yesterday's CBOE data, the Max-Pain Pointâ„¢ for the March'99 CPQ open interest, which expires tomorrow, is $32.5. Since the MM's don't like to lose too much, it may help as an anchor point for today and tomorrow.

Why? Because he made a mistake. His general disposition is to disbelieve the companies. So he tends to believe sources that suggest a contradiction to the companies. He misreads or misinterprets his sources. He is not careful enough when he thinks he has evidence that supports his agnosticism.
