Vman; How many sats are far enough along to support an orbital slot?
The press of late is full of new 'needs'. Are these just press releases to keep the respective companies in the news (DirectTV, Brazil aka Skynet) or are the actual needs real time (next 6 months)?

The launcher deficit has been played up over the past few years but I dont see that much of a crunch. Globalstar was able to re-manifest and there appears to be excess capacity in both the former USSR and China.
(Add in the new launchers coming on line this year for Boeing and Lockheed - I could go on and on)

Depending on the ability to re-configure a sat to a new customer's requirements, it seems that the really serious people can get birds up in six months to a year.

It is obvious that the entire industry is still too fragmented to take full advantage of the assets available. That costs us money. It also gives the company with the foresight to line up some good deals.

Bernie's view of the future seems to be validated with each new teaming/global alliance announcement. I think that he was far enough ahead that the ground work is in place to be able to capitalize on the system before the bigger fish are able to come in and muscle into the market.

The music is playing. I hope Loral has a seat when the music stops.
