The comments about booking revenue apply to "Classic Compaq". The revenue model for the high end lines is different. It is not unusual to have a large pre-payment (i.e. ahead of shipment) with order for the Tandem Himilaya shipments, since they are largely custom built, and take a while to build. Likewise some of the high end Alpha systems.

Also, the emphasis on back-end loaded revenue seems to have been on these high end lines.

I suspect that there are large sales pending, probably Tandem sales, which are big enough to affect the numbers. I know some people at Tandem but they are not talking except to say that they are well ahead of plan and are getting a lot of e-commerce business (i.e. systems to support e-commerce). Tandem and the top end Sun (UE 10000) have the performance and scalability lock on big servers, and Tandem has much better reliability (about 100 times better than the UE1000).
