Yeah, I'm not sure why that is funny but that is what I'm saying. We know our best efforts will not with time always prove just. We should still try our best and give the rest to God. In the case of the death penalty, people believing in eternal justice have relief knowing for certain the justice prevails on the perpetrator. The pay back, including as you've said confidence in the civility of the system, doesn't happen except through the death penalty.
