El & thread, Got a late start to work this AM and just finished reading 100+ posts. I'm not a stock analyst, just an average Joe and I'll tell you what, this Kumar announcement seems a bit odd. Either he's a genius and Niles and other analysts are idiots, or he's somehow been misinformed. Kumar and others continue to focus on CPQ's PC business, implying essentially that all CPQ does is sell PCs through the retail channel. While this may have been true in the past, I think we've all seen that Compaq is now making progress toward changing its business model in a big way. IMO, the DEC acquisition is starting to pay dividends, and Tandem's contributions will continue to increase both the top and bottom lines. Rudedog is right, Tandem Himalaya sales are long sales cycle type of sales, so there's certainly a possibility that some good size deals can close on any given day. As such, I lean toward Victor's view and think that it's still possible for CPQ to pull out a decent quarter. I also agree with everyone who said that it would be very odd for this company's management to clearly know that they will miss consensus estimates by 40%, and not make any effort to inform investors of the impending shortfall. We can all sit here and talk about it forever, but the bottom line is that "what will be, will be." Despite the fact that CPQ has disappointed me personally for over 18 months now, I for one still believe that this company will ultimately be back in a big time way. Finally, if As_Co_k Kumar is as way off on this prognostication as we hope he is, then someone should bust his butt for it big-time. Credibility in any profession takes a lot of time to acquire, but it can disappear in a heartbeat based on one significant screw-up. Thanks for listening to my Dennis Miller-style rant today, I appreciate having the forum to do so. Regards, JMaz PS: Recently I felt like I needed to stop reading this thread, thinking that it was probably best to ignore CPQ for a month or so and then check in. I changed my mind when I realized how much I would miss reading the posts of all you regulars. This truly is a wonderful thread to be a part of!
