Thing to bear in mind about all the present earnings projections is that they are based on assumptions about the price of oil that are no longer valid. It will take weeks, maybe longer for the brokerage house analysts to redo their figures and publish them.

All: What do you think of YPF? Peso tied to $$ so stable from a currency standpoint. Looks undervalued to me. May be getting a takeover offer from Repsol, which would by law have to be $40+

venezuelan president:opec can be transformed into powerful pole
new york, march 19, irna -- iran's foreign minister kamal kharrazi
conferred with venezuela's president hugo chavez in caracas thursday.
referring to the good relations between the islamic republic of
iran and the republic of venezuela, chavez said "my colleagues and i
have been closely following developments taking shape in iran after
the triumph of the islamic revolution and i am very happy to see that
a popular and democratic government is in power in iran today."
"i regard this such a striking development with value and that as
a friendly country, we used the iran's experience to bring about a
popular democratic government in venezuela," the president
highlighted.
he then pointed out, "although our country is located in the west
we are not western minded. our culture is a blend of asian, african
and european cultures and we are determined to expand our relations
with the islamic republic of iran in all possible areas."
referring to bilateral cooperation in the area of oil and the oil
market on the bases of opec, chavez said, "during the past two decades
an irresponsible policy prevailed over venezuela's oil industry.
however, we have recently decided to explore all possibilities to
bring about stability in oil price in the world market."
"we do not believe in either unipolar or bipolar world order. we
think that there are several poles in the world and one of them is
pec which can be transformed to a very powerful pole if close
cooperation could be strengthened and achieved," noted the venezuelan
president.
kharrazi referring to the developments in iran in the past two

decades with twenty different election experience behind it during
this period, said, ''the father of islamic revolution and founder of
the islamic republic of iran the late imam khomeini tried to
establish popular organs after the triumph of the islamic revolution
in 1979.
''immediately after that a referendum on the choice of the system
of the government was held with the participation of over 99.7 percent
of the eligible voters.
''the latest rural and urban council elections also show a
democratic process of people's participation in the national decision
making process where the fate is determined by the people
themselves,'' said the foreign minister.
people's role and the press in iran are regarded to be very vital
as both present constructive role in formulating national policies,
observed kharrazi.
referring to president hojjatoleslam seyyed mohammad khatami's
policy of removing tension in the region and the world and his
tiatives on the dialogue between civilizations, kharrazi said, ''the
islamic republic of iran is pursuing a policy base on non-tension,
confidence building and constructive dialogue with different
countries.
''during the past one and a half year the world has been a witness
to great transformations taking place in the islamic republic of
iran's foreign policy. the results of these policies can be observed
with the expansion of relations with neighboring countries
specifically with that of saudi arabia and the most recent visit by
the president to europe,'' stated kharrazi.
president khatami held very profiting negotiations with italian
leaders, and in his capacity as the current chairman of the
organization of the islamic conference (oic) he held fruitful talks
with the leader of the one billion roman catholics, pope john paul
ii, said kharrazi.
''the islamic republic of iran is interested in bolstering
relations with latin american countries specifically with venezuela,
with which it has traditionally held friendly ties,'' observed
kharrazi.
kharrazi also extended an invitation from president khatami to the
venezuelan head of state to pay a state visit to iran which was
welcomed. chavez expressed hope that he would visit iran at the
earliest convenience.
