The reality is that PK nearly destroyed Borland trying to corner the DB market, and doing front-line battle with MSFT. Unlike Jobs, who was pushed out by the CEO who then ran the company into the ground, PK was the one who is primarily responsible for this mess. Del's only failure here is failure to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again.

The only real hope is an acquisition. THe Enterprise-Java-CORBA business has yet to meet a fraction of the market growth predictions and media hype. This is not to say that the Enterprise Java/CORBA market is not a good business to be in, but for many reasons (Y2Kstealing all of the IT $$, perhaps being the primary problem, the growth has not materialized. Fault Del for putting all of his eggs in in one basket. The number one mistake made by new CEO's is to lose sight of the company's primary line of business. BORLAND was making decent $$ as a provider of desktop development tools. Imagine if he would have invested a small amount of $$ in Linux tools as insurance. $55M+ Q's might not seem so far-fetched.
