Siemens Continues To Strengthen Position In Converged Network Technology Through Redstone Acquisition
BURLINGTON, Mass. / MUNICH, Germany, March 18, 1999 - Unisphere Solutions, Inc., a newly formed Siemens company targeting leadership in converged voice/data and Internet networking solutions, today announced that Redstone Communications, Inc. of Westford, Mass, will become part of Unisphere Solutions. Siemens has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the privately-held Redstone Communications, a leading developer of next-generation routing technology designed to address service provider challenges at the customer entry point into service provider networks.
Redstone's technology will enable Unisphere Solutions and Siemens to better serve their service provider customers as they strive to meet demand for new IP (Internet Protocol)-based services. The Company's Edge Switch Router delivers sophisticated IP Quality of Service capabilities, along with unparalleled port density levels, wire-speed forwarding performance and carrier-class reliability. Shipping of the Redstone Edge Switch Router will begin later this month.
With the addition of Redstone products to its growing product portfolio, Unisphere Solutions and Siemens are moving quickly towards implementing their strategy of data/voice/video integration for converged networks. Unisphere Solutions' product portfolio already includes offerings from Argon Networks, Inc., Castle Networks, Inc., Accelerated Networks (equity stake) and data networking-related units of Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc., Boca Raton, Fla.
