StorageTek and Siemens AG Deepen
Relationship

StorageTek Delivers Firewall Product For Siemens
InterXpress Voice-Over-IP System

HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1999-- Today at CeBIT
StorageTek® (Storage Technology Corp., NYSE:STK), the preeminent provider of network
storage, announced further cooperation with electronics giant Siemens AG, Munich/Germany, that
builds on the two companies' well-established corporate relationship.

Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN) will rely on StorageTek's
NetSentry(TM) II security firewall component to secure its new InterXpress voice-over-Internet
solution, shown for the first time in public at CeBIT. Using InterXpress, CeBIT visitors can place a
phone call from the Siemens booth over the Internet to the StorageTek booth, at regular phone
carrier voice quality. Marketed predominately to global service providers, InterXpress enables up to
3,000 connections and disconnections per second. StorageTek's NetSentry firewall product is the
only one on the market capable of providing full security at such fast connection speeds.

This cooperation in the area of network security is another cornerstone in the corporate relationship
of StorageTek and Siemens AG. In August of 1998, Siemens Computer Systems division became a
worldwide reseller for StorageTek's industry-leading tape storage products. Due to StorageTek's
stance as ''the clear market leader in archiving systems,'' Siemens selected the company as its
strategic tape automation partner. Siemens ICN has become StorageTek's customer in both
enterprise tape automation in its Munich Data Center and in multi-platform tape automation, for
example in the Siemens ICN SAP R/3 project (run for ICN by Siemens Business Services).

In addition, Siemens Computer Systems division will join StorageTek in sponsoring EuroStorage
'99, a conference solely devoted to information storage issues, slated to take place April 19-20,
1999, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Berlin, Germany.

''Data warehousing, and Internet-driven applications such as intranets, extranets, and e-commerce
are driving the demand for ever-better storage solutions and data protection,'' said Dr. Helmut
Beck, head of the line of business ''Storage'' within Siemens Computer Systems division. ''We are
pleased to be partnering with StorageTek to offer our customers the most complete range of storage
options as demand escalates.''

Computing Giant Siemens Raises the Bar for Unix
and NT Based Server Backup And Clustering
Solutions With BROCADE's Open, Full-Fabric Fibre Channel Solution

CeBIT, HANNOVER, Germany, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Brocade Communications Systems,
Inc., (BROCADE®) a leading supplier of Fibre Channel Fabric switches for Storage Area
Networking (SAN) announced today that it has completed a worldwide partnership agreement with
Siemens Computer Systems, the computer division of Siemens AG, Munich/Germany. Based on the
terms of the agreement, Siemens will use the BROCADE SilkWorm® family of switches to offer
high performance LAN-free-back-up and clustering solutions for its PRIMERGY NT and RM Unix
servers. The PRIMERGY and RM lines of open servers offer exceptional stability and security. By
using BROCADE's standards-based Fibre Channel Fabric switches, Siemens continues its tradition
of providing open, scalable, and clustered server solutions that reduce the cost of managing NT and

The agreement with Siemens further strengthens BROCADE's position as a worldwide supplier of
SAN solutions. Partnerships such as this one are an essential component of FABRIC 2000(TM),
BROCADE's strategic framework to maintain an open, standards-based approach for Storage Area
Networks.

BROCADE's full-fabric switches connect servers with storage devices through a Fibre Channel
network allowing companies to access and share storage in a high-performance, manageable and
scalable Storage Area Network. Combined with a unique, sophisticated Fabric Operating System,
named FABRIC OS(TM), BROCADE switches deliver the robustness and manageability required
by today's data center applications.

''Our recent agreement with BROCADE is fully in line with our strategy to provide comprehensive
enterprise storage solutions that are best-in-class products from leading suppliers,'' said Dr. Helmut
Beck, head of the Business Storage Unit of Siemens Computer Systems. ''Storage Area
Networking is an important component of our customers' data center strategies. The flexibility and
high performance of the BROCADE Fibre Channel switches will provide high performance
connectivity between servers -- such as our PRIMERGY and RM product lines -- and storage
systems. This will allow us to deliver cost- effective SAN solutions that meet our customers' needs
for online information, data backup, and data archiving.''

''Our agreement with Siemens represents an important milestone for BROCADE as we continue to
increase availability of our award-winning Fibre Channel solutions,'' said Greg Reyes, president and
CEO of BROCADE. ''We are pleased to work with Siemens to enhance data availability and
simplify storage area networking for customers worldwide.''
