Cheeky:

I'm not interested in who is right. I know that sounds odd to you, but it is the truth. And there is nothing but opinion, Dr. Ed's or anyone else's. Some opinions are more informed than others. Given the tragic consequences of a global recession, I want the probability to be so small that we don't even think about it.

My point is that we may all be lulled into thinking that the risk is almost gone because people who do not understand the nature of the problem - let alone how to interpret what their tekkies tell them - are doing the talking.

Oh, and it doesn't help that Microsoft says 'compliant' when they mean 'we are confident we can fix this, it will probably need a patch and it's probably not ready yet.' When they say 'compliant with minor issues' that means, 'it will surely need a patch, it's probably not ready yet, and even after you apply it the thing still won't be Y2K compliant by our standards but we don't think the bugs will hurt you.'

Combination of disingenuous 'information' from major vendors and CEO speak. I just feel a false sense of complacency coming on here.

Oh, and by the way, a 50% chance of a global recession is pretty darn grim. Quite different from your personal chance of being correct. You seem to be confusing these two things.
