Why are you persisting in avoiding the point?? No matter how much outrage Milgram caused, he was able to decisively detail how human beings could cause tortuous, even life threatening, pain upon another human being so long as they were able to exonerate themselves of self-responsiblity.

And he proved it with good old, pride of our litter, steak and potatoes, American boys and girls.

Just because Yale didn't like the fact that Milgram proved that American kids could be made to act like the "despicable" Germans is no reason to disregard his work.

You can't torture someone who has the free-will to get up and say "I'm not going to participate in this experiment". It could be argued that German soldiers faced the problem of a firing squad should they disobey orders, no matter how distasteful.
